Team Player

Before I was a parent, I wondered about the term "soccer mom". Oh, that will never be me. I'll stay calm, cool and collected. The kids are in it for the experience, and win or lose, teamwork is important for child development.

My theory went to pieces as soon as my daughter started dominating midfield. Early in the season, I had categorized my eldest as timid and shy. I figured she was complying because we requested she pick a team sport, and soccer was the best of three evils. Then HER theory went to pieces, as soon as she started understanding the strategy of the game. She wanted to win. I wanted her to win.

By the final match, I was marching the sidelines, my vocal chords blown out with encouragement. We were a team, just me and her.
