We read in the weekend newspaper that large numbers of blue whales and humpback whales were feeding on krill in
Monterey Canyon. With one day left before heading out of town, I signed up for a whale watching opportunity with the girls. The experience was pretty fun for the kids (not
totally awesome because my 5 year old would have preferred ice cream) - but absolutely magical for me. With one hand holding onto my youngest's life jacket, and the other balancing a tippy camera, I managed to snap a few shots and a short 30 second video during our 4 hour boat ride. That's an amazing experience! How neat to be able to have an impromptu for such a trip like this. I can tell from your photo how happy and excited you are! :)
I'm totally jealous! Kids whale watching & humpbacks to boot? You rock, mama!
That is so cool!!! Was that your daughter saying "the humpback whale said hello"?!? Too cute!
I remember when a humpback whale and its calf went up the Sacramento Deep Water channel and ended up hanging out in the Port of Sacramento for about a week. At the time I lived less than a miole from the port so I would take the kids in the stroller every day up to see the whales. It was such a neat experience but I think it would be that much cooler to see them in their intended environment!
how wonderful! your kids must have been thrilled, what a fabulous thing to do!
Oooohhh, you're my day trip hero for the summer. I will need to find time to fit this in, I think I can get over my seasick fears and get on the boat for those whales.
