Surfing Safari, Family Style

I grew up with a brother who surfed, and then I married a surfer. Those of you who are surfers, or are familiar with them, realize the significance of surfing conditions and how those correlate to moods. High quantity and quality conditions basically means that folks are stoked.

Enter the annual (or sometimes bi-annual) surf trip. Dad globetrots to catch waves, and Mom stays at home to catch toddlers. We can improve this, I know we can.

Here is some footage from my brother, Rob Bent, a lifelong surfer, veteran Patagonian, and all around cool guy. This is a May 2007 trip to Sumatra with his friend Adam's company Sumatran Surfariis. Two solid weeks of surfing (and he's done this trip six times and counting). My husband wants to join the next trip...

...OK, well that's great and all, but what about ME? So, I'm shouting out a challenge to all of the travel bloggers and other interested parties - Does a family friendly Indonesian-based surf destination exist? It needs to have clean accommodations, some sand beaches, a few land activities, and a decent hospital. Recommendations welcome, and I'll even post a follow up!

If we do it right, maybe we can ALL enjoy that Endless Summer!

P.S. And hey, stop that, I know what you surfer guys are thinking...that the Fam would just limit your options and all that. Well, time to get over it people! You want two weeks? Yeah bro, that's a team trip right there.

There's a Club Med in Bali with kids programs, spa, fun stuff for the rest of the fam...but I don't know what the surfing is like there!

How exciting, totally take the family, I'm sure you'll find the perfect combination.

I sympathise - It's difficult to find a holiday that will suit everyone. Perhaps its a case of if you can't beat thyem join them. Although you won't get me in the sea in Chilly Cornwall for surfing, even in a wetsuit.

PS - You really ought to make your comments open to putting name & URL - I'm sure it's in the settings somewhere. Otherwise some people may not bother to leave a comment:)

Heather - thanks for the advice. I've changed the settings to 'anyone' so I hope that does the trick!
