The Art Museum

We could look, but we couldn't touch. We could walk, but we couldn't run. We could talk, but we couldn't shout or whine. Civilization - at last! Fine art museums have many rules, but that shouldn't keep families away. After minding our manners on a rainy Sunday morning at San Francisco's Museum of Modern Art, they surprised us with a hands-on art program in their education center. I still find it interesting that you can tour 5 floors of priceless art, but when you're with a child, all they need is a room with some blank paper.

Looking forward to more priceless art this spring when the De Young Museum will showcase the Impressionists: Birth of Impressionism - Masterpieces from the Musee d'Orsay, opening May 26th. With a baguette in hand, it might be like a mini trip to Paris!

Please don't forget to check out Photo Friday for more artistic ideas.

I love it when museums and art galleries offer kids the opportunity to express their creativity in such an inspiring environment. Compliments to your daughter for her creations, they look great!

We love visiting art galleries with our children, the ones in London all have fantastic children's activities. I volunteer for an organisation called Kids in Museums that helps museums in the UK be more family friendly, so this is a subject close to my heart!

I just recently become a fan of Art museum when we moved to Atlanta. They have great programs for family and kids. Love it when the Art museum tries their best to involve kids.

Looks like a great museum, and I'd love that Impressionism exhibit!
The Detroit Institute of Arts has some great programs, too...I'm always hoping to do the drawing in the galleries program one day.

You made me laugh with your artwork, I think it touched on some similar feelings I have. I haven't taken D. to the modern art museum yet, but I did see that they had some pretty good kids' programs available. Going to check out that Impressionism one though.

Fantastic artwork! I love that museum. I hope one day my children will to. I certainly don't "get" all the modern art that is displayed but there is always something that really strikes my fancy.
